After my alarm clock goes off, I usually find myself half asleep, trying to find something healthy to bring with me to school, rushing out the door accompanied by more than a few coffee stains on my scrubs. Eating nutritious IS challenging. It takes preparation, dedication, self-control, and (unless you live on/nearby a farm) a little more money. But it does get easier- when you keep in mind that the benefits outweigh all of the barriers and allow yourself time for these choices to become habits. It also helps when you are in a hurry and find great products to grab on the go- like these Mary’s Gone Crackers!
Mary Waldner began making these satisfying, nutrient dense bites in her kitchen after discovering the inability to digest gluten was the cause of her debilitation. Celiac or not, you will want to try them out as a healthy alternative snack! I usually throw a box in my bag along with hummus or guacamole because they are crisp enough to double as a chip! These are the best organic, gluten free, vegan, kosher, and non-GMO crackers I have ever tasted, and they contain a whopping 400 mg. of omega-3 fatty acids per serving!
Just look at the ingredients and some of their health benefits:
- Organic Short Grain Brown Rice: high in manganese and selenium, these minerals that are necessary for the body to form tissue, bone, and blood, maintain metabolism, brain and nerve function, as well reproduction and thyroid hormone metabolism.
- Organic Whole Quinoa: high in magnesium, a mineral necessary for nerve impulse conduction, muscle contraction, blood glucose control and blood pressure regulation. Quinoa is also a good source of phosphorus, necessary for strong bones, teeth, and metabolism.
- Organic Brown Sesame Seeds: high in calcium, a mineral necessary for the muscles and nerves to communicate in the body, as well as iron- necessary for the transfer of oxygen from lungs to tissues.
- Organic Brown Flax Seeds: sweet fiber, omega fatty acids (necessary for normal brain function), and thiamin (necessary for turning carbohydrates into energy)! There are few vitamins and minerals this ingredient doesn’t have!
When you get attached to product this good, you feel like a proud mother hen for their success- or at least I did. I may or may not have done a happy dance when the Gone Crackers were recently spotted on my local Publix’s shelves. Don’t worry, You can do a happy dance too if you can’t find them at your local Publix or health food store, try here (for the full list of ingredients as well).
